When I sat down to write this blog I had a hard time putting my ambassador experience into a few words. Which is why it just got put up and that I had to go treat some cows. The only thing that I could vaguely say is, just do it. Just run for it and do it! This experience doesn’t easily fit into a blog post or even a few pictures.
To put some perspective into my background with the program, I was the 2nd Senior Michigan Dairy Ambassador. I have been involved with the Dairy Ambassador Committee since then and let me tell you, what a great program!
The best part about it is that each ambassador gets to pick what they want their big project for focus for the year. When I was an ambassador I wanted to work with kids and work on teaching them about milk. The committee and I put on the 2008 Udderly Cool Dairy Day at MOO-ville Creamery in Nashville, Michigan.
In addition to all of the projects you will get to experience you get to meet and work with some amazing individuals out in the industry. I cannot put a number on the number of people I have met and become friends with because of my involvement on the ambassador committee. When I was the ambassador I began my blog. Here I am 6 years later still reaching out. I have had opportunities to meet people, become friends with people and go to numerous events. In my top picture I am with one of the judges from the year I won dairy ambassador, Russell and I still talk regularly. In the above picture, the wonderful woman in red is no one other than J.P. Love Cotton and talk about an awesome lady! Below, is Kelly M. Rivard who became one of my first social media friends. She came to my wedding all the way from Kansas City, talk about a trooper!
To put all of this into a summary, JUST DO IT! Any of you youth out there, just apply. Parents with a child old enough, try and convince them to run. I can tell you tons of stories about the skills gained and the cool things done by other past ambassadors. It really is a life changing experience!
